Aim of Taiwan is to install 5.5GW offshore wind, the Dutch supply chain can help make this happen. Dutch is also in the transition of energy with 4.5 GW by 2023. International interest in both the Dutch government’s approach and the Dutch offshore companies was clearly evident during the offshore wind energy masterclass. Dutch offshore industry has the knowledge, experience and material to take their place at the international top of the offshore wind sector.
Dutch experience and expertise in offshore wind spans engineering, infrastructure, fabrication, installation and operations and maintenance (O&M), and so the industry needs to capitalize on this to make gains. Meantime, opportunities for innovation are in areas such as standardization of design, foundation types for deeper seas (e.g. floating foundations), lightweight materials, quicker installation methods, and environmentally-friendly piling methods. Cooperation is essential in order to improve the process of bringing cost down.
